Coby Bryant’s Injury at Chicago Bears Training Camp

Chicago Bears newcomer Coby Bryant faced an early setback when he was carted off the field during training camp on Monday. The situation initially seemed dire as Bryant anticipated a severe injury after winning the Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks the previous season.

Despite the initial concern, Bryant received a more optimistic diagnosis. ESPN reports he will miss eight to ten weeks due to a hyperextended knee, bone bruise, and small fracture. Fortunately, his injury is not season-ending.

Bryant joined the Bears under a three-year, $40 million contract, aimed at strengthening their secondary post significant roster changes. During his time with the Seahawks, Bryant proved his value with seven interceptions, contributing to the team’s Super Bowl victory.

Although he might not be ready for Week 1, the regular season’s start is five weeks away, so Bryant’s absence may be brief. His commitment to recovery is echoed by tight end Colston Loveland, who expressed his confidence in Bryant’s resilience and determination.

The Bears must manage their depth chart as Bryant undergoes rehab. Dillon Thieneman, drafted in the first round, was set to be the starting free safety alongside Bryant. Following the injury, Cam Lewis, previously a slot cornerback, will likely shift to safety. Lewis, a recent signing from the Buffalo Bills, joins the Bears amidst significant roster changes, including the departure of key players such as Kevin Byard and Jaquan Brisker.

This period is critical for maintaining team health, and the Bears are not immune to these challenges. However, Bryant’s return is anticipated during the 2026 NFL season, allowing the Bears to leverage their strategic acquisition for success.
