Colorado State suffered a heavy defeat to Oregon State at home, losing 56-26. This loss came shortly after a disappointing 59-45 loss to UTSA, indicating significant defensive issues for the Rams. However, these problems are no longer the concern of Tyson Summers, the former defensive coordinator.
Head coach Jim Mora removed Summers from his play-calling position during the game against Oregon State, doing so before the end of the first half. The decision to strip Summers of his role raised eyebrows both within and outside the program.

During the first half of the game, Summers was on the sideline but left after Oregon State built a 14-0 lead with just over a minute left in the first quarter. Mora explained to reporters after the game that Summers had chosen to leave the field after having his play-calling responsibilities removed.
The defensive coordinator’s departure wasn’t unexpected; Mora confirmed that Summers is no longer part of the Rams program following his exit from the game. This departure marks an end to Summers’ brief tenure as the Rams’ play-caller.
After Summers left, co-defensive coordinator Kenny McClendon stepped in to manage the defensive play-calling. The change didn’t stem the tide, as Oregon State added another 21 points in the second quarter, finishing the first half with a commanding 35-14 lead. They eventually secured a 30-point victory over the Rams.
Mora is navigating his first season as Colorado State’s head coach after successfully leading UConn to consecutive nine-win seasons in 2024 and 2025. Summers had previously served as an interim head coach for five games in the 2025 season following Jay Norvell’s firing and was retained as defensive coordinator by Mora. However, their professional relationship seems to have ended following the recent events.
