The Washington Commanders face challenging decisions ahead as quarterback Jayden Daniels deals with a dislocated left elbow. Specialists are scrutinizing recent MRI results to determine the best course of action for Daniels’ recovery. As a result of his injury, Daniels will not play in the upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks, with Marcus Mariota stepping in as the starting quarterback.
The Seahawks remain hopeful about the return of their quarterback, Sam Darnold, although his participation will be contingent on his progress in practice sessions. Meanwhile, Daniels is consulting multiple medical experts for additional opinions on his condition.
“He had imaging done today,” Commanders coach Dan Quinn stated. “He’ll see specialists early this week, Tuesday and Wednesday, and then we’ll go through the process from there.”
Coach Quinn refrains from providing a definite recovery timeline. The medical feedback could suggest options ranging from surgery to an extensive rehabilitation program. Daniels previously opted for rehab over surgery for a similar injury last season, which kept him out of several games.
While surgery isn’t a common necessity for elbow dislocations, it remains a possibility if the bones can’t maintain alignment or if severe damage to the ligaments or tendons compromises stability. The specific details of Daniels’ current ailment are still unknown, making it challenging to set definitive plans.
The Commanders will likely face more than one game without Daniels, adding pressure on Mariota and potentially other quarterbacks. The team is currently off to a rough 0-2 start, making Daniels’ role crucial due to his dynamic capabilities. Without him, the team must rely on its existing roster to regain stability for the season.
