In New York City, a small coffee shop chain gained attention with a controversial Instagram post condemning Congressman Dan Goldman’s visit. This incident highlights the ongoing tensions over support for Israel in one of the city’s most progressive and predominantly Jewish districts.
Congressman Goldman visited Poetica Coffee in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, alongside his 7-year-old daughter on Sunday. This visit occurred outside his district on a day when early ballots were cast in a Democratic primary where he faces a strong challenge.
Hours after the visit, Poetica shared an Instagram post with harsh language, clearly stating that Goldman was unwelcome. The post included a photo of Goldman at the shop, seemingly captured by a surveillance camera. The caption criticized him, asking, “Do you see how it doesn’t taste like genocide juice? Or are you still having a hard time telling the difference?” It further stated, “We don’t serve racists, fascists, homophobes, genocide enablers, or anyone in between. Too bad we didn’t recognize you right away, or we would have turned you away.”
Goldman responded to the post’s comments, explaining that he visited the shop so his daughter could use the restroom. He mentioned that he bought a coffee out of gratitude to the employee who facilitated this.
