Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby has a knack for stirring up trouble. During a practice in Henderson, Nevada, Crosby’s actions ruffled the feathers of Kirk Cousins.
Crosby hit Cousins’ arm twice in team sessions. After the second occurrence, the typically calm quarterback had enough. He confronted Crosby, gripping his jersey, and words were exchanged before teammates split them apart.
Cousins remained on the field with the first-team offense. Meanwhile, Crosby was sidelined. Raiders head coach Klint Kubiak acknowledged that these skirmishes are part of training camp dynamics.
“Those are two leaders of our team going at it, so that is part of camp,” Kubiak explained. “Obviously, if you fight in a game and throw a punch, you’re out of the game. We need to be smart and treat it like a game.”
Tight end Michael Mayer complimented Cousins’ grit while advising caution.
“We don’t want to be throwing punches, but on any padded day of camp, there’s going to be some tussles,” Mayer noted. “That’s our starting quarterback, and you want him to defend your team and have some edge.”
Despite drafting Fernando Mendoza first overall, the Raiders chose Cousins to lead the camp. He has dominated first-team reps and will likely start against the Miami Dolphins in Week 1.
