The Dallas Cowboys experienced a significant defeat in Rio de Janeiro. They lost to the Baltimore Ravens after a last-second field goal.
Quarterback Dak Prescott led the Cowboys’ offense down to the five-yard line in the fourth quarter with a chance to win. However, they couldn’t score a touchdown and settled for a game-tying field goal from Brandon Aubrey.
With only seven seconds left in the game, Ravens’ quarterback Lamar Jackson connected with wide receiver Zay Flowers on a 27-yard pass. This play set up a timeout with one second remaining. Kicker Tyler Loop then made a 56-yard field goal, securing a 34-31 win for Baltimore.
Many fans and analysts criticized the Cowboys’ defense for the collapse. Yet, Hall of Fame wide receiver Michael Irvin believes the offense bears more responsibility.
“I’m way more disappointed in the offense,” Irvin stated on ESPN’s “First Take.” “I am more disappointed in GOTI: The Greatest Offense There Is, not being the greatest offense there is.”
Prescott concurred with Irvin’s assessment, blaming his offensive unit.
“Frustrated,” Prescott said. “Frustrated as hell. Excuse me. Embarrassed. We don’t call ourselves the best offense, GOTI, and get down to the one-yard line and don’t put it in. Yeah, it just sucks. Not a lot of words or full explanation of it … .”
Prescott also mentioned that the defense should not have been in that position. He emphasized that the offense needed to secure the game outcome.
