City Journal, associated with the Manhattan Institute, discusses urban policy and recently addressed critiques of gifted education. Criticisms of these programs are not new, yet recent arguments have become increasingly illogical. In New York, writer Katie Arnold-Ratliff questioned the existence of student giftedness. Her argument suggested that gifted programs are ineffective since only 12.3 percent of gifted students in a study achieved notable success by the age of 50. According to her, this indicates that 88 percent of these students never reached distinguished levels such as becoming Fortune 500 executives or prominent journalists.
