A recent viral incident on a Carnival Cruise has drawn attention to passenger hygiene. A passenger was filmed using a restaurant fork to scratch the bottom of her foot. This video was shared by the Instagram user lucky_charmedcourt, who chronicled the event in a series of six videos.
The passenger appeared to have a skin condition and used the fork for scratching her foot. The Instagram user also tried to alert the ship’s guest services and the captain about the situation. In the second video, titled “foot fungus lady uses fork on cruise,” the woman is seen using the fork’s tines more aggressively. Further footage shows this behavior on the ship’s deck.
The cruise blog “CruiseHive” identified the ship as Carnival Sunrise. Carnival Cruise Line has since issued a statement saying, “We can confirm that forks are intended for food, not foot care.” They stated that once informed, the crew addressed the issue and removed the utensil from service.
The video, which has garnered over 150,000 comments on Instagram, has renewed discussions about hygiene on cruise ships. Various users have expressed their disbelief and concerns on platforms like Reddit. One user commented, “In the buffet dining area no less, people never stop surprising me.” Others shared similar sentiments.
The incident coincides with ongoing scrutiny over cruise ship sanitization protocols. Despite the concerns, the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) estimates that over 38 million people worldwide will take ocean cruises this year, surpassing last year’s record of 37.2 million passengers.
