On Tuesday evening, powerful waves swept a mother and her two children into the ocean in Laguna Beach. One child remains missing despite rescue efforts, according to local authorities.
Around 7:30 p.m., the city’s Marine Safety Department was alerted to swimmers in distress. Nearby witnesses acted quickly to help, managing to rescue the mother and one child. However, the search continues for the other missing child.
A sheriff’s helicopter and Laguna Beach lifeguards are actively searching the area near the Montage Resort. The missing child vanished after large waves knocked her off rocks and into the sea.
Currently, the Southern California coast faces hazardous conditions. The National Weather Service reported a high surf advisory affecting areas such as Catalina, the Santa Barbara islands, Malibu Coast, and all Los Angeles County beaches. San Diego and Orange county coastlines are also under warning through Thursday afternoon.
The Weather Service emphasized, “There is an increased risk for ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore.”
