David Lee Roth’s summer tour has encountered unexpected cancellations. Fans were left puzzled as several concerts were suddenly called off. Sammy Hagar, Roth’s fellow Van Halen alum, quickly offered his support.
Sammy Hagar’s Message to David Lee Roth
Hagar reached out to Roth with a heartfelt message. He mentioned a call from Michael Anthony while enjoying his margarita, a nod to their shared past.
“Hey Dave, Sammy here. I just got a call from Michael Anthony as I’m sitting down having my favorite cocktail, and I don’t have to tell you what this is,” Hagar said.
Hagar expressed his sympathy for the tour cancellations and wished Roth well, hoping no physical issues were involved. Concerts in Colorado, Iowa, Kentucky, and Illinois were canceled. No clear reason was provided. Roth’s planned performances in August and September, including an August 7 appearance in Sturgis, South Dakota, remain on Ticketmaster’s list.
Van Halen’s Legacy and Roth’s Continued Influence
Hagar praised Roth’s efforts to keep Van Halen’s music alive, recalling their time in the band.
“Honestly, Mike and I love the fact that you’ve been out there doing it, supporting the greatest band in the world that we were both part of,” Hagar said.
He invited Roth to join him and Michael Anthony in Las Vegas this September. Hagar suggested Roth could perform or host, urging him to connect with fans and maintain the legacy of real rock music.
Their past rivalry, marked by competition, saw them share a brief tour in 2002, though tensions quickly resurfaced. Both contributed vocally to different eras of Van Halen, shaping the band’s history.
Roth’s Shifting Performance Plans
The cancellations are a setback for Roth, who surprised many by announcing his retirement in 2021. “I am throwing in the shoes. I’m retiring,” he declared then. However, he resumed performing in 2025 and continued through 2026.
Roth has not yet addressed the canceled dates or responded to Hagar’s invitation. Meanwhile, Hagar remains committed to supporting his former bandmate and the future of rock music.
