Democrats Select Candidate to Face Gov. Phil Scott

Vermont’s political landscape is set for another electoral contest as incumbent Governor Phil Scott prepares for reelection. Having served as governor for nearly ten years, Scott continues to maintain his political foothold. Vermont allows governors to serve two-year terms and does not impose term limits, which presents Scott with ongoing opportunities to extend his tenure.

This election cycle, two new faces have emerged in the Democratic primary. Economist Amanda Janoo enters the race alongside Aly Richards, who previously led a child care advocacy organization. Both seek to secure the Democratic nomination and oppose Scott in the upcoming November election.
