Former NBA player Enes Kanter Freedom was ejected from a Chicago Sky game against the Indiana Fever after a heated courtside argument with the Sky’s Natasha Cloud. This interaction led to the team’s decision to ban him from attending future games at their venue indefinitely.
Details of the Incident
The ejection stemmed from Kanter Freedom’s conversation with Cloud, which witnesses described as “trash talking”. According to Sky owner Michael Alter, Kanter Freedom initiated the confrontation, and his actions were deemed a potential threat when he stood and approached the court. Although Kanter Freedom didn’t cross the baseline, his behavior was enough to alarm the Sky.
As detailed by Colin Salao from Front Office Sports, Alter noted that Kanter Freedom would need to demonstrate adherence to the venue’s rules before being allowed back. Conversations with other individuals at the game confirmed Kanter Freedom was the provocateur in the situation.
Kanter Freedom’s Recent Activities
Recently, Kanter Freedom gained attention for a social media video declaring his intention to join the 2027 WNBA Draft unless the league alters its transgender participation policy. At the Sky vs. Fever game, he wore a t-shirt stating “WOMAN noun: adult human female”. His interaction with Cloud occurred during the third quarter, leading to his ejection and subsequent ban.
Natasha Cloud’s Response
Natasha Cloud, who has been active in the WNBA since 2015 and was pivotal in the Washington Mystics’ 2019 championship win, has remained largely silent on the confrontation. She did not address the incident in postgame press conferences but communicated with team and league security afterward.
A Sky spokesperson reported that the WNBA has not issued a league-wide ban against Kanter Freedom following this incident.
