Researchers believe that by utilizing advanced transmission technologies, the current electric grid can operate more efficiently. However, there is concern among tech companies about convincing utilities to adopt these technologies due to the utilities’ financial models.

The need to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy sources is pressing, driven by the climate crisis. Yet, many wind and solar projects face substantial delays before connecting to transmission lines. To meet green energy goals and significantly reduce pollution, the United States aims to boost transmission capacity by 43% by 2035, according to the REPEAT Project from Princeton University. This expansion will require significant time and investment.

To address this hurdle, some technology companies are developing ways to improve the existing grid infrastructure. These methods could provide faster and more cost-effective solutions than constructing entirely new transmission lines.
