Massive Tuna Caught Off New England Coast
A recent catch off the New England coast has shattered previous fishing records. A colossal bluefin tuna weighing 1,116 pounds was reeled in by fisherman Brandon McGirl and Captain Jamie Savage from Out of Line of Savage Charters NH.
Challenging Conditions
The fishing trip took place on a rough Saturday with McGirl and Savage not expecting such a remarkable haul. It was very difficult conditions to try and fish. It was a little bit rougher than we were hoping for,
McGirl recounted.
As they were ready to end the day, the sound of their reels suddenly announced the presence of something enormous.
Pursuit and Capture
The chase for the tuna extended over a mile, and bringing it onboard proved to be a tremendous challenge. We lifted it out of the water and immediately knew it was way bigger than what we thought and bigger than anything either of us had seen before,
said Captain Savage.
The catch weighed in at 1,116 pounds, surpassing the previous New Hampshire state record set in 2013 by over 150 pounds.
A Fisherman’s Dream
For experienced anglers, landing a 1,000-pound tuna is a dream come true. If you tuna fish for a long time, to catch a 1,000-pound fish, is, I mean, it’s something that you dream of,
McGirl stated.
Images provided by Captain Savage show the massive fish dwarfing both men and nearly outgrowing the boat.
Heading to Market
The tuna will soon be heading to market, where its high-quality meat will surely delight many seafood lovers. The excitement from the catch extends to the consumers who will enjoy one of the ocean’s highly prized delicacies.
