Eric Adams Faces Hostile Reception in Wisconsin Over AI Data Center Proposal

Former New York City Mayor Eric Adams faced a challenging reception during a visit to Wisconsin. As he presented a proposal for an AI data center, the audience greeted him with boos and insults. The tension escalated when one attendee shouted that Adams “belongs in prison,” alluding to a previous, dismissed federal corruption case.

Adams attended the meeting representing PNK Group, which aims to build a data center on a former paper mill site along the Wisconsin River. His appearance was not well-received by local residents, many of whom voiced strong opposition to the plan.

“Whether we like it or not, folks, data centers are going to be here,” Adams told the audience. Despite his efforts to communicate, residents responded with remarks like “You’re here to steal our water!” and “Put it in your backyard!”

Adams attempted to engage with the crowd, offering to answer questions and encouraging dialogue. He defended his position by sharing a personal story about AI helping his doctor diagnose his Type 2 diabetes. His response was again met with a chorus of boos.

Despite the hostility, one resident urged the crowd to let Adams speak. Todd Shapiro, Adams’ chief communications officer, later commented on the event. He claimed that a brief video clip of the exchange did not fully capture the event’s dynamics, saying it missed attendees thanking Adams and expressing interest in the project.

Shapiro further noted that Adams’ involvement in the data center proposal is intended to highlight the economic benefits of responsible AI and data center development. According to Shapiro, Adams consistently advocates for policies that attract investment, generate jobs, and strengthen local economies, aiming to keep American communities competitive in future industries.
