On May 25, 2026, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced an intensification of Israel’s conflict with Hezbollah. This development follows conflicting messages from President Trump regarding a potential deal to end the war with Iran.
In a social media video, Netanyahu declared, “We are at war with Hezbollah.” This statement signals an escalation despite a ceasefire brokered by the United States in April. Both Israel and Hezbollah continue to accuse each other of violating this fragile truce, highlighting its limitations.
Netanyahu stated Israeli forces had killed over 600 Hezbollah militants recently, indicating ongoing military efforts. He emphasized increasing pressure, stating, “We are not removing our foot from the pedal. On the contrary, I said to press on the pedal even more.”
An escalation could complicate Iran-U.S. negotiations. Iran demands Lebanon’s inclusion in any agreement, while Trump’s public statements have omitted reference to Hezbollah’s involvement.
According to Lebanon’s health ministry, Israeli strikes have killed 3,185 people since the conflict reignited in March. More than 9,600 have been wounded. This violence started when Hezbollah attacked Israel following an American-Israeli strike on Iran in February. The conflict has displaced hundreds of thousands, worsening the humanitarian situation.
