Iran and the United States have intensified their conflict, with new developments reported as of Friday. The U.S. military conducted strikes on bridges, rail lines, and a maritime observation tower, as shown in videos and reported by Iranian state media. Iran has responded by targeting countries hosting U.S. military bases, affecting infrastructure like power and water plants in Kuwait.
President Trump announced more than a week ago that the cease-fire agreement with Iran was no longer in effect. Subsequently, the U.S. and Iranian forces have engaged in daily attacks. President Trump has threatened further destruction of Iranian infrastructure to force a resolution of the conflict and prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. Iranian officials have warned of retaliatory strikes against civilian infrastructure in neighboring countries.
Legal scholars warn that targeting essential civilian infrastructure, such as water treatment facilities, can constitute a war crime. However, strikes on railroads and bridges might be justified if they serve military purposes, such as transporting troops or weapons.
The U.S. Central Command confirmed continuous strikes on Iranian targets for the seventh consecutive night. While they refrained from detailing specific targets, Iranian media reported explosions in Sirik, a city with strategic naval bases. U.S. Central Command highlighted that previous operations targeted Iranian military infrastructure, but did not explicitly confirm the targeting of bridges and railroads.
In a recent statement, U.S. Central Command claimed their strikes took out several Iranian military facilities, including coastal surveillance and air defense sites, as well as military logistics infrastructure. They also destroyed a port surveillance tower used by the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps to monitor and target commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz.
