President Trump expressed his support for Senator Graham on social media, stating, “Lindsey was one of the greatest people and Senators I have ever known, and his sister shares his deep love of our country.” He urged her to run in the Special Republican Primary scheduled for August 11, 2026.

This endorsement changes the dynamics of what was expected to be a competitive Republican primary. Initially viewed as a temporary placeholder, Ms. Graham’s position may now offer her a platform to launch a full Senate campaign. Her association with President Trump could sway the outcome in her favor in South Carolina, a state with strong Republican support.

Previously, several prominent Republicans, including Representatives Russell Fry, Nancy Mace, Ralph Norman, and Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, considered running for the Senate seat. Yet, Trump’s backing of Graham may deter them from entering the race, though some might choose to continue.

Ms. Graham’s current term concludes on January 3, 2027, coinciding with her brother’s term end. The special primary to determine the Republican nominee is on August 11, and candidates must file by noon on July 28.
