Dan Dakich raises questions about Lane Kiffin’s coaching credentials, comparing his unpredictable career to the notorious John Gotti. Despite not having a significant win record, Kiffin’s reputation continues to stir discussions.
In a recent matchup against McNeese, LSU, led by Kiffin, faced a dominant victory with a 35-0 lead by halftime. Officials approached Kiffin to suggest running the clock in the second half, a common practice during a blowout to shorten the game. However, Kiffin declined the offer.
“You play the game, we decide when it’s over by the way that we play… I told the guys that we don’t do that,” Kiffin stated.
He emphasized maintaining a high standard of play, expecting every player to give their best effort, regardless of their position on the team. This approach allowed multiple players to gain valuable field experience, as evidenced by several quarterbacks and a variety of receivers contributing to the game.
Quarterback Sam Leavitt threw for three touchdowns. Backup quarterbacks Landen Clark and Husan Longstreet combined for 25 passes during the game. Eight players attempted at least one rush, and ten made receptions. This strategy aimed to reinforce Kiffin’s belief in upholding the team’s playing standard regardless of the score.
Despite recent injuries, LSU’s depth saw extensive play, bringing a balanced performance to each quarter. Although there was concern about further injuries, the Tigers managed the blowout timing strategically.
Looking ahead, LSU prepares to play against Kentucky in Lexington. Kentucky has momentum from a recent comeback win, presenting a new challenge for Kiffin’s team.
