Ex-TV Anchor Admits to Fatally Stabbing Mother, Faces Life Sentence
Angelynn “Angie” Mock, a former television news anchor from Missouri, has confessed to fatally stabbing her mother, driven by the belief that her mother was the devil. Authorities provided these details last week.
Mock, aged 48, entered a guilty plea to one count of first-degree murder concerning the death of her 80-year-old mother, Anita Avers. The incident occurred on October 31, 2025, as reported by the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s Office on Friday.
Under the plea agreement, Mock will receive a life sentence. She will be eligible for parole after 25 years.
Law enforcement responded to the Wichita residence shared by Mock, her mother, and Mock’s stepfather at approximately 7:50 a.m. on Halloween. According to the Wichita Police Department, they discovered Mock outside the house, bearing cuts on her hands.
Avers suffered multiple stab wounds and was transported to a hospital, where she subsequently died.
Mock made statements suggesting she believed her mother was the devil, according to a probable cause affidavit.
She purportedly informed authorities that she acted to “save herself.” Mock’s stepfather disclosed to KAKE-TV that she had a history of mental illness, including delusions and depression.
Mock’s career in journalism included work as a news anchor and reporter for Fox 2 in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015, as per her LinkedIn profile. She also served as a morning anchor for KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011 and held various reporting positions in Minnesota, Montana, and Nebraska.
Mock, seen following her arrest and booking at the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of first-degree murder, is scheduled for sentencing on October 5.
