Exclusive: Special Social Security Cards for America’s 250th Anniversary
Millions of babies born during America’s 250th anniversary will receive unique commemorative Social Security cards. The new Social Security Administration (SSA) initiative, shared exclusively with FOX Business, offers these cards from July 2 to December 31, 2026. Each card will feature the Freedom 250 logo while functioning like a standard Social Security card. This initiative makes these cards official federal documents for millions of American newborns during this festive period.
The limited-edition cards are available only to babies born in the U.S. during a six-month window. These cards become keepsakes, marking the nation’s 250th birthday.
Freedom 250 is a celebration of America’s storied history and the significant moments that have shaped our nation, including the creation of Social Security over 90 years ago, said SSA Commissioner Frank J. Bisignano. Under President Donald J. Trump, the SSA is improving service and building an efficient agency for the present and future.
The commemorative marking is exclusive to original cards issued via SSA’s Enumeration at Birth (EAB) program. Babies born before July 2 or after December 31, 2026, will receive standard cards. Replacements and duplicates will also not feature the Freedom 250 design.
Parents need not file extra paperwork, pay fees, or opt-in for the commemorative version. SSA ensures these cards are issued automatically through the EAB program. Parents apply for a Social Security number during birth registration in hospitals, birthing centers, or through licensed midwives at no extra cost.
The special design does not alter a child’s Social Security number or card function. SSA warns parents against scammers, specifying that they never request payments for these cards. Parents need only follow standard birth registration procedures.
The commemorative rollout aligns with other Trump administration initiatives aimed at young Americans, including Trump Accounts to help families save for their children’s futures effectively.
For American newborns during the 250th year, the Social Security card will symbolize their entry into the world during a significant national occasion.
