F-16 Intercepts Aircraft Over Restricted Ohio Airspace

The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) recently reported an incident in which an F-16 fighter jet intercepted a general aviation aircraft. The plane had violated temporary flight restrictions over Geneva, Ohio. NORAD clarified that the jet safely escorted the aircraft out of the restricted zone.

The U.S. Air Force stated that flares were used during the operation. These flares serve as a method to attract the pilot’s attention or communicate with them. The Air Force emphasized that the flares are safe, burn out quickly, and pose no ground danger.

NORAD reminded pilots to diligently check the Notice to Airmen (NOTAMS) and FAA Temporary Flight Restrictions. This particular restriction was in place due to President Trump’s visit to Geneva, Ohio, for the 2026 Patriot Games finale.
