F-16 Jets Intercept Plane Near President Trump in Geneva, Ohio

On Tuesday, F-16 fighter jets intercepted a plane that entered a no-fly zone surrounding President Donald Trump during his visit to Geneva, Ohio. The North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) stated that the fighter jets deployed flares around 6:15 p.m. ET to catch the pilot’s attention, then escorted the aircraft out of the restricted area.

President Trump was in Ohio attending the Patriot Games, a sporting event for teens organized by the administration to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the United States.

NORAD, which includes forces from both the United States and Canada, regularly intercepts aircraft that breach the temporary airspace restrictions placed near the president. During President Trump’s visit to his golf course in Bedminster, New Jersey, on Sunday, F-16s also intercepted two “general aviation” planes that violated these temporary restrictions. The term “general aviation” refers to non-commercial civilian aircraft.
