Fatal Rollover Crash in Barrington Hills

Early Saturday morning in Barrington Hills, a fatal rollover crash occurred. The incident happened around 2:20 a.m. at the intersection of Hills and Dales and Brinker roads, resulting in the closure of the roads for eight hours.

According to the Barrington Hills police department, a blue Mercedes SUV was speeding north on Brinker Road when it lost control and crashed onto a nearby lawn. The vehicle slid and rolled approximately 400 feet, hitting two trees and a culvert. It eventually stopped near Hills and Dales Road.

One person was ejected from the SUV, while two others had to be cut free from the wreckage. Their identities have not been disclosed yet.

Zach Swiatek, a local resident, described the aftermath of the crash. His teenage daughter woke him after hearing the crash, which occurred just outside their home. Upon inspecting, Swiatek found the SUV had collided with his 60-foot tree, with its engine and transmission separated from the vehicle.

Police and first responders promptly arrived at the scene. They used equipment to cut the roof of the car to extract the occupants, who were subsequently taken to the hospital by ambulance.

Swiatek commented, “For a single-car crash, it was pretty horrific.”

He noted that crashes are not uncommon on this narrow, two-way road without a shoulder. Swiatek remarked that speeding, paired with icy winter conditions, typically contributes to accidents near his residence. On this occasion, the high speed of the SUV led it to knock over a large tree.

The Barrington Hills Police continue their investigation of the crash.

Swiatek expressed his condolences, stating, “This was a horrible accident, and my heart goes out to the people involved and their families. Huge loss today.”
