Arnoldo Jimenez, a Mexican man who evaded capture for more than ten years, has returned to the United States from Mexico after being apprehended last year. The FBI announced this development on Thursday.
Jimenez was apprehended on January 30, 2025, by Mexican authorities in cooperation with U.S. law enforcement in Monterrey, Mexico. At the time of his arrest, he was listed as the fourth-most wanted fugitive in the United States on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.
Background on the Case
Jimenez faces charges for allegedly murdering his wife, Estrella Carrera, on their wedding night in 2012. Carrera’s body was discovered in the bathtub of her apartment in Burbank, Illinois, on May 13, 2012. This was less than two days after their marriage ceremony.
A state warrant for Jimenez’s arrest for first-degree murder was issued on May 15, 2012. Following this, a federal warrant was also issued for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.
FBI’s Pursuit of Justice
The FBI released a statement celebrating Jimenez’s extradition, underscoring their commitment to pursuing justice no matter how much time has passed or where the individual is located.
“Thursday marks an important milestone for [FBI Chicago]—our personnel have successfully brought back FBI Most Wanted fugitive Arnoldo Jimenez from Mexico,” noted the FBI’s statement.
The FBI has not specified a motive for the alleged murder, nor have they announced a date for Jimenez’s initial court appearance.
