FBI Seizes Devices of Former Congressman Eric Swalwell
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) confiscated electronic devices from former Congressman Eric Swalwell at San Francisco International Airport on Saturday night. Two sources confirmed to Fox News Digital that the devices were seized as part of an investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct. Swalwell’s residence in Washington, D.C. was also searched on Sunday.
The investigation led to the seizure of at least one cell phone from the disgraced former lawmaker, although he was neither arrested nor detained. Fox News Digital reached out to Swalwell’s attorney for comments.
Department of Justice Investigation
The Department of Justice has launched an investigation into Swalwell following allegations of sexual misconduct. Swalwell resigned from Congress in April amidst mounting allegations and potential expulsion. During his 13-year tenure, at least five women, including a former staffer, accused him of sexual misconduct or rape.
Swalwell also withdrew his candidacy for California’s gubernatorial race. Lonna Drewes publicly addressed the allegations on April 14, 2026, in Beverly Hills. The Associated Press usually does not reveal names of alleged sexual assault victims unless they choose to go public.
I will fight the serious false allegations made against me. However, I must take responsibility and ownership for the mistakes I did make.
These were Swalwell’s words at the time of his resignation.
Scrutiny Over Ties with Chinese Operative
Swalwell also faced renewed scrutiny when the White House declassified documents related to an FBI investigation into his relationship with Christine Fang, suspected to be a Chinese intelligence operative. Swalwell admitted to having “physical relations” with Fang on several occasions, the last being in March 2015, as per the declassified FBI records released by the White House’s Government Transparency Task Force.
Swalwell was interviewed by the FBI in 2015 and 2016 regarding his connection with Fang, who had suspected links to China’s Ministry of State Security. Her parents were reportedly recognized as Chinese intelligence officers.
