Fear of God Essentials Hoodies: A Costly Fashion Trend Among Youth
Fear of God Essentials hoodies have become sought-after items for young fashion enthusiasts, surprising many parents with their price tag. The hoodies, part of a clothing line created by Jerry Lorenzo, range from $130 to $200. These essentials have become a status symbol for tweens and teens.
Kinna Thomas, a mother of two, spoke about the price of these items, recalling when her children first requested them. She noted, “It felt a little bit expensive for, at the time, 11- and 12-year-olds.” Despite the cost, Thomas has incorporated the trendy clothes into her teenagers’ wardrobes.
The Essentials line, introduced in 2018, carries a broader message about self-expression and simplicity. High school students are often seen wearing them in hallways, giving the brand visibility and popularity. In a conversation with Ssense, Lorenzo described how his faith influences his work. Although Fear of God Essentials is not labeled as a Christian brand, it reflects his personal beliefs.
Julian, one of Thomas’s sons, stated, “People like it because it looks clean without doing too much.” His brother Timmy added, “It’s simple, comfortable, and still looks good.” These sentiments are echoed by other young fans of the brand.
For parents, the brand offers a way for children to express themselves positively. Thomas appreciates that her children, who attend a Christian school, can wear Fear of God Essentials. This acceptance contrasts with other brands that may not align with the school’s dress codes.
Amy Nachon, another parent, prioritizes her child’s self-expression over cost, supporting her son’s style choices. She remarked, “If my son knows what he wants to wear and has an idea of his style and his look, I’ll support him in that.” The challenges of middle school make fashion a medium for personal expression.
Attempts to reach Fear of God Essentials for comment were not immediately successful. The discussion around this brand continues to highlight the intersection of style, cost, and personal expression in youth culture.
