A Venezuelan delivery driver, Wilber Rafael Garces Perez, has been formally charged with assaulting a federal officer. The charges were filed by federal prosecutors in Texas after an incident involving an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.
Court documents, made public on Tuesday, detail the accusation that the 28-year-old Garces Perez struck an ICE officer with his vehicle. This occurred as he allegedly attempted to flee in order to avoid arrest earlier this month.
The Department of Homeland Security reported that Garces Perez resides in the United States illegally. An immigration judge previously ordered his deportation.
This situation is developing and further updates will follow as more details emerge.
