A former San Francisco deputy police chief and her daughter were found dead in what authorities suspect was a murder-suicide orchestrated by her husband, a retired police sergeant. The Marin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deaths of Ann Mannix, 65, her daughter Katie, 24, and her husband Kevin Mannix, 68.

Details of the Incident

According to the Marin County Sheriff’s public information officer, Miguel Almaguer, an initial investigation suggests a double-murder suicide took place. Kevin Mannix was identified as the suspected shooter, although no further information about evidence from the scene was disclosed.

The tragedy unfolded in the family’s Mill Valley home. Deputies were alerted by a 911 call from a resident who had safely left the premises. Upon entering, they discovered the three family members deceased.

The incident has deeply affected those connected to the family. The San Francisco Police Officers Association expressed their sorrow, stating, “The tragic loss of retired Deputy Chief Ann Mannix, her daughter Katie, and retired Sergeant Kevin Mannix in a suspected murder-suicide has left our entire SFPD family reeling.”

Ann Mannix was celebrated for her pioneering role with the SWAT team and her involvement in youth sports and the city’s Police Activities League. She was the first woman to join and lead the SWAT team, and she was well-regarded for her skills and dedication.

Former officer Lou Barberini praised Ann Mannix, noting her talent and competence as both an athlete and a police officer.

Authorities have scheduled autopsies for all three victims. Meanwhile, the San Francisco police have yet to issue a formal comment on the case or any developing investigation details.
