Four Arrested After Interstate 75 Blocked in Street Takeover
Authorities arrested four individuals after an incident involving hundreds of vehicles blocked all northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in Hillsborough County, Florida. This occurred early Saturday during an apparent street takeover, which escalated into a high-speed chase, reaching speeds of 140 mph.
The situation began at around 1:30 a.m. near mile marker 266 in Thonotosassa. Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) traffic cameras recorded a large assembly of vehicles halting traffic, with some drivers performing burnouts on the interstate. An arrest report detailed these events.
Upon arrival, state troopers found vehicles rapidly dispersing, as seen in video footage. Drivers and spectators hurried back to their vehicles. While most involved departed without charges, a green BMW reportedly sped from the scene, prompting a pursuit by a trooper.

The BMW reached approximately 140 mph, nearly double the speed limit, before leaving the interstate and stopping in a parking lot. The driver, identified as 25-year-old Yulian Lugo, was arrested. Authorities charged him with aggravated fleeing to elude and participating in a street takeover, both felony offenses.
Three passengers were also detained. Two were 18 years old, and one was 24. Each faced charges of misdemeanor highway racing, according to the FHP. All four were booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.
Street takeovers, where participants use public roads for stunts such as burnouts, have gained the attention of law enforcement in Florida and nationwide due to the safety risks posed to drivers, participants, and spectators.
