France enters the 2026 FIFA Men’s World Cup loaded with talent. Kylian Mbappe, renowned for winning the Golden Boot at the 2022 World Cup and recently securing the Pichichi Trophy in LaLiga, leads the French squad. Alongside him is Ousmane Dembélé, the current Ballon d’Or holder, and Michael Olise, a top-tier winger. Their lineup sets a high bar.
Iraq’s coach, Graham Arnold, acknowledges the challenge his team faces against the French powerhouse at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on Monday, June 22. During his Sunday press conference, Arnold humorously remarked, “I asked if we could play three goalkeepers, but they said no.” He recognized France’s formidable roster, stating, “Look, they’ve got some incredible players, and it’s an honor.”
Despite the obstacles, Arnold emphasized his team’s focus on their own performance. “We will go out, and we will play — we’re focused on ourselves,” he explained. “Our main goal is to ensure the players are ready to demonstrate their capabilities on the global stage, and that’s the most important thing.”
France, known as Les Bleus, showcased their strength in a convincing 3-1 victory over Senegal last week, driven by Mbappe’s two goals. Iraq, making its first World Cup appearance in 40 years, suffered a 4-1 defeat to Norway. Erling Haaland’s two goals underscored Iraq’s defensive struggles, raising concerns about their upcoming match against France.
Currently, France and Norway lead Group I with 3 points each, while Iraq and Senegal aim to secure a favorable outcome in their next match.
