Freddy Peralta’s Historic Performance
Freddy Peralta, a key player for the Tampa Bay Rays and MVP of the American League Championship Series, has achieved a rare feat. His recent pitching performance stands alongside two Hall of Famers, Bob Gibson and Walter Johnson, as extraordinary. According to Opta STATS, Peralta has pitched over 50 innings in his last 10 starts, allowing one run or fewer in each game, contributing to his team’s victory in all 10. This accomplishment places him among a prestigious group in the history of Major League Baseball.
The only other pitchers to complete such streaks were Bob Gibson in 1968 with the St. Louis Cardinals and Walter Johnson in 1913 with the Washington Nationals, although Johnson’s ‘Nationals’ were later known as the Washington Senators and eventually became the Minnesota Twins in 1961.

Peralta’s Path to Success
Upon joining the Rays from the New York Mets at the trade deadline, Peralta had a 4.99 ERA over 22 starts. His recent improvement has surpassed expectations. “This is crazy,” Peralta expressed, reflecting on his journey. “I’m very happy and grateful to be here, especially considering where I was back in July.” Since joining the Rays, Peralta has demonstrated significant improvement, going 5-2 in the regular season with a 3.25 ERA. His stellar performance earned him the title of American League Pitcher of the Month for September.
During the postseason, Peralta has been formidable, recording a remarkable 1.08 ERA over 16 2/3 innings in four appearances. Known for his fastball, nicknamed “Fastball Freddy,” Peralta credits his turnaround to Rays pitching coach Kyle Snyder, bullpen coach Jorge Moncada, and bullpen catcher Charlie Valerio. “They helped me a lot,” said Peralta. “I’m thankful for their guidance and support which I will never forget. They have become family to me.”
Facing Familiar Foes
The upcoming World Series presents a unique situation for Peralta as he faces the Milwaukee Brewers, his former team for eight seasons. Despite his connection to Milwaukee, Peralta is focused on competing. “Milwaukee is a city that gave me the opportunity to achieve my dream,” shared Peralta. “While they will always be in my heart, I’m excited to compete against them.”
Entering free agency this offseason, Peralta is aiming for a significant contract. First, he is determined to help the Rays secure their first World Series title by defeating his old team. His dedication to the game and to his new team is evident as he prepares for the challenging battle ahead.
