A Michigan-based company, Champion Foods, is recalling specific frozen cheese breads because they might be contaminated with salmonella. This recall concerns particular batches of Motor City Pizza Co. 5 Cheese Bread. The issue follows a recall of milk powder from California Dairies, Inc., also due to possible salmonella. This powder is an ingredient in the cheese sauce used in the bread.
Salmonella can cause symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. While typically not severe for healthy people, it can be dangerous for children and those with weakened immune systems. In rare situations, the bacteria can spread to vital parts of the body, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The breads were distributed nationwide in both single and double packs at stores like Costco, Walmart, Giant Landover, Grocery Outlet, Jewel, Kroger, Schnucks, Target, and many others.
