A police officer from Garden Grove has been charged with an alleged “inappropriate interaction” with a participant in the department’s Explorer program, designed for youth interested in law enforcement.
Roberto Machuca, 32, of the Garden Grove Police Department, was apprehended on Saturday and held in the Orange County Jail. Details of the suspected crimes remain unclear. Machuca was released from custody on Sunday, as shown in jail records.
On Friday, officials were alerted to the claimed interaction involving Machuca and the juvenile in the Explorer program. A news release from the Garden Grove Police Department confirmed the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have refrained from sharing further specifics but stated they are collaborating with the Orange County district attorney’s office. They intend to present the case to prosecutors after the investigation concludes.
