The English band Gorillaz recently demonstrated solidarity with the ‘Free Palestine’ movement following rapper Macklemore’s removal from Ed Sheeran’s tour. During their performance in Florida, leading member Damon Albarn prominently displayed a Palestinian flag and encouraged the audience to take a stand. Albarn emphasized the importance of maintaining one’s position and avoiding neutrality.
Macklemore was reportedly removed from the tour due to his advocacy for Palestine, which led to a wave of support from progressive individuals who criticized Sheeran. The incident prompted Sheeran to clarify his stance, denying direct involvement in the decision to exclude Macklemore.
Gorillaz has a history of supporting Palestinian causes, having played at the Together for Palestine concert in 2025. Albarn has previously encouraged audience engagement on Palestinian issues, notably at the Glastonbury Festival in 2024.
Following his removal from Sheeran’s tour, Macklemore stood by his ‘Free Palestine’ activism, addressing the issue on social media. He stated that while he faced consequences, he does not view himself or fellow artists like Ed Sheeran and Pink as victims.
Sheeran responded to the backlash during a recent performance, conveying his feelings on the situation in Israel and Palestine. He highlighted the humanitarian aspect of the conflict and emphasized the need for unity over division.
This incident reflects the ongoing discussions and varying perspectives in the entertainment industry on the Israel-Palestine conflict.
