Guest Fatality and Injuries at Six Flags Over Georgia
On Monday, a tragic incident at Six Flags Over Georgia resulted in the death of a guest and injuries to several others. The event occurred shortly before 4 p.m., confirmed by the Cobb County Police Department.
The police department reported that the incident led to multiple injuries and one fatality. Although they did not specify which roller coaster was involved, CBS News Atlanta noted that the Goliath ride was shut down. Visitors were seen being evacuated from its highest point using an emergency stairway.
Details remain scarce, and authorities have not disclosed the identity of the deceased guest. Six Flags issued a statement expressing sadness over the event. “Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected,” said a spokesperson for Six Flags. They assured the public of their cooperation with local authorities in the ongoing investigation.
Riders left the Goliath following the tragic occurrence. Mableton Mayor Michael Owens mentioned that the city’s public safety director is collaborating with the police and the amusement park regarding the situation.
Opened in 2006, Goliath is the tallest ride at the park, reaching 200 feet and dropping 170 feet at speeds up to 70 miles per hour. Recently, Six Flags announced the permanent closure of its X2 roller coaster at Magic Mountain, California. This followed lawsuits claiming over 100 riders suffered brain injuries related to that ride.
