House Advances Sunshine Protection Act

On July 15, 2026, Congress made a significant move to end the practice of changing clocks twice a year. The U.S. House of Representatives passed the Sunshine Protection Act, a proposal designed to make Daylight Saving Time permanent across the country.

This legislation, which has received bipartisan support, now proceeds to the Senate. In past attempts, similar initiatives faced obstacles in the Senate and did not advance. This new effort could result in a major adjustment to national timekeeping.
