Hunter Biden Criticizes Merrick Garland’s Leadership as Attorney General

In a recent appearance on the “I’ve Had It” podcast, Hunter Biden expressed strong opinions about his father’s decision to appoint Merrick Garland as U.S. attorney general, labeling it as the “greatest mistake” of President Joe Biden’s administration. The show’s host, Jennifer Welch, criticized Garland and the Department of Justice (DOJ) for their approach towards former President Donald Trump and their investigation involving Hunter Biden.

Welch questioned Hunter Biden on what she perceived as the Democrats’ concession to Republicans in nominating Garland. She expressed her frustration, saying, “One of the things that pisses me off is the Merrick Garland DOJ and the not prosecuting of Trump. And that they prosecuted you.”

Hunter Biden shared his perspective, stating, “The single greatest mistake of my father’s administration was the leadership of Merrick Garland.” He emphasized that the responsibility ultimately falls on President Biden who selected Garland. He noted that the president adhered to traditional norms, maintaining a separation between executive influence and DOJ decisions.

Hunter Biden further criticized Garland for not pursuing charges against Trump concerning the January 6 Capitol riots. He suggested Garland overlooked a “planned conspiracy” by the Trump administration to challenge the 2020 election results. “Did you not see the people storming the Capitol of the United States of America, beating cops and running congressmen and senators out of the building?” Hunter Biden questioned.

Welch and Hunter Biden described Garland as a “moderate,” speculating that President Biden chose him to satisfy Republicans, reminiscent of former President Obama’s nomination of Garland for the Supreme Court. Welch opined, “Obama picks this milquetoast candidate. Your dad is a decent man, felt bad about what happened to Merrick Garland. And he played integrity politics.”

Hunter Biden’s prior legal issues involved investigations starting under President Trump’s term in 2018. He was pardoned by his father for past offenses during the end of his presidency, covering potential infractions from January 1, 2014, to December 1, 2024.
