Hurricane Polo is making its way north along Mexico’s coast, with forecasters suggesting it might develop into a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane. This information comes from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) in their latest update on Tuesday.
Currently, Hurricane Polo is positioned roughly 215 miles south of Zihuatanejo, Mexico, and it is progressing east-southeast at a speed of six miles per hour. Meteorologists predict a shift in its course towards the northwest starting Tuesday night through Wednesday.
As Hurricane Polo nears Mexico’s southwestern coast, projections indicate it will likely remain offshore. The NHC has observed that the storm’s maximum sustained winds have surged to approximately 150 mph.
Polo is a category 4 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Continued rapid intensification is forecast, and Polo could become a Category 5 hurricane later today, said the agency.
The situation is evolving, and further updates are expected as the storm progresses.
