Border Changes Affecting Big Bend National Park
In recent times, changes along the border shared by Big Bend National Park and Mexico have caught attention. The Sierra del Carmen mountains, a defining feature of this region, present a stunning view from the park. However, recent developments have disturbed the serenity of this landscape.
During my visit last month, the scale of construction underway became evident. Large stretches of land that previously remained pristine now face disruption. Despite Big Bend National Park’s 118 miles of border with Mexico, the natural environment does not resemble typical border regions.
These alterations raise concerns about the preservation of such valuable natural spaces. Understanding the balance between security needs and environmental conservation is crucial.
