Incident at Ohio Fair Involving Gubernatorial Candidate Amy Acton
An incident involving an armed individual occurred at the Canfield Fair in Ohio, affecting gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton. The incident led to injuries among attendees.
Amy Acton’s campaign stated that while she attended the fair, a person with a weapon lunged at her, causing injuries to others present. In response, campaign communications director Addie Bullock expressed gratitude for the prompt response by law enforcement. Dr. Acton and her husband, Eric, are thankful for their action and wish for the recovery of those injured. Bullock emphasized that violence has no place in Ohio and reaffirmed Dr. Acton’s commitment to tackling hate and division.
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine confirmed Acton was unharmed. He and his wife, Fran, spoke with her to convey relief that she was safe. DeWine also acknowledged the efforts of the Ohio State Highway Patrol and other law enforcement in addressing the situation.
Details about the culprit or their arrest remain unclear. Although Acton’s campaign described the individual as armed, DeWine did not mention a weapon. The exact nature of the injuries or the motive behind the attack also remains unknown.
The incident coincided with Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin’s warning about ongoing threats to candidates and public figures as the campaign season intensifies. He highlighted the persistence of threats against elected officials and the necessity to reduce rising tensions.
Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy also condemned the incident. His campaign stressed that candidates should interact with voters without fearing violence. They expressed hope that no one was seriously hurt.
Amy Acton and Vivek Ramaswamy are set to compete in the upcoming election to succeed term-limited Republican Governor Mike DeWine. Acton is well-known for her role as Ohio’s Director of Health during the COVID-19 pandemic, where she implemented various health measures.
