Multiple American military aircraft have been damaged following Iranian strikes on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base in Jordan, according to sources with direct knowledge. The strikes occurred overnight from Tuesday into Wednesday local time. An A-10 Thunderbolt, also known as the Warthog, was hit and lost a wing. About eight F-15s sustained light damage but were reportedly returned to service.
No U.S. casualties have been reported following the strikes. These events unfolded after U.S. forces attacked five Iranian tankers, retaliating for Iran’s targeting of a U.S. Navy warship. In response, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran claimed to have targeted eight tankers and two U.S. warships, including the Jordanian base.
U.S. forces in Jordan launched over 30 Patriot missiles to counter the Iranian attack. However, concerns over the declining stockpile of these missiles and other precision munitions remain. U.S. officials previously expressed worries about these dwindling resources.
President Trump stated on Wednesday that Iran aims to influence the midterm elections and predicted the war’s end shortly afterward. He speculated that Iran cannot sustain their efforts much longer and seeks a favorable outcome in the elections. Despite earlier intentions, President Trump confirmed that negotiations with Iran are not on the agenda before the midterms.
