Israeli Military Strike in Gaza Results in Casualties

On Friday, an Israeli military strike in central Gaza led to the death of at least seven people, with several others injured, according to hospital officials. This incident is part of a recent increase in attacks within the territory.

The Israeli military reported that the attack aimed at members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, which is the second-largest militant group in Gaza. The military acknowledged claims that some uninvolved individuals were harmed.

“The results of the strike are under review,” stated the Israeli military. Despite signing a U.S.-backed cease-fire agreement with Hamas in October, Israel has intensified its strikes in Gaza. Israeli officials stated that the military’s focus has been on hitting Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad militants, specifically those tied to the October 7, 2023, attack on southern Israel. That attack claimed the lives of 1,200 people, saw 251 individuals taken captive, and sparked the ongoing war in Gaza.

Hamas, the militant faction governing much of the Gaza Strip, condemned the Friday strike as an “ugly massacre,” accusing it of targeting a funeral procession. However, they did not specify whose funeral it was.

The Awdeh Hospital confirmed receiving the victims and reported seven fatalities from the strike. Dr. Mohammed Salha from the hospital noted another person was killed in a separate event on the same day.

Osama Hmaid, a 39-year-old resident of Nuseirat where the strike happened, mentioned that there have been several Israeli strikes in their area recently.
