Jacobs’ Owen Crouch’s Impactful Season

Key Moments in Owen Crouch’s Breakout Season

Junior receiver Owen Crouch reflects on his influential season for Jacobs, highlighting a pivotal play that turned the tide for him and his team. Recently, the Golden Eagles overcame a 17-point gap to triumph over Burlington Central, maintaining their unbeaten streak. A 74-yard touchdown catch from Austin Stennett narrowed the deficit to 20-10, playing a crucial role in their comeback.

Crouch, who completed the game with five catches for 111 yards in the 31-27 win, shares his thoughts on the significance of the catch. “I’ve been thinking about this year,” said Crouch. “I think that catch was the turning point for me, setting the standard for how I want to continue the rest of the season. We didn’t give up mentally. Realizing we can rally back boosts our confidence for upcoming big games.”

Consistent Performances

The 5-foot-11, 150-pound receiver continued to impress, securing five catches for 135 yards and touchdowns of 69, 19, and 18 yards in a decisive 49-6 victory over McHenry. Jacobs stands strong at 5-0, gearing up to control the Fox Valley Conference race against Huntley.

Coach’s Praise and Cutting Route Skills

Jacobs coach Brian Zimmerman commends Crouch’s precise route running and impressive hands. He acknowledges the essential role of Crouch’s long touchdown in sparking the team’s comeback. “That kind of sparked the comeback that night,” Zimmerman said. “He’s as good a route runner as we’ve seen, very agile and tough. His catching ability is superb.”

Strong Bond with Quarterback Austin Stennett

Crouch credits his skills to his consistent training with Stennett, the junior quarterback. “I focus on my route running and catching ability,” Crouch said. “Every day, we test and refine our techniques together. It’s beneficial to have him by my side.”

Stennett acknowledges their developed connection. “Having Owen as my receiver since freshman year has built a solid bond. That bond has become evident in recent games.”

Upcoming Game Against Huntley

The team faces Huntley this Friday, aiming to stay undefeated. The upcoming match holds significance, with Zimmerman noting, “It’s going to be an exciting atmosphere, their homecoming game, with around 5,000 attendees. Our focus remains on working hard as we have throughout the season.”

Maintaining composure before the important game, Crouch says, “Huntley is a tough team, but it’s another week for us. Our goal is going 1-0. That mindset has been consistent throughout the season.”

Crouch’s Journey from Junior Varsity

Moving from junior varsity last year to leading receiver this fall, Crouch doesn’t take his breakout season lightly. “Transitioning from JV, seeing hard work pay off is rewarding. Witnessing everything come together has increased my confidence.”
