As the NFL season approaches, all eyes are on Cincinnati Bengals’ wide receiver, Ja’Marr Chase. He is recognized as one of the league’s top players in his position. Last season, Chase ranked third in the NFL with 125 receptions and fourth in receiving yards with 1,412. He was tied for 11th in the league with eight receiving touchdowns.
Chase has expressed his ambition to break records this season. “Honestly, man, the only goal that I have for myself going forward is just to get 23 touchdowns,” Chase shared with NFL Network. “I want to break the record with that.” His focus extends beyond personal achievements as he stated, “My goal is to be better the next day than the last day. Try to get my team better than what they was the last day.”
The record he aims to surpass is 23 single-season receiving touchdowns, set by legendary wide receiver Randy Moss in 2007. This means Chase needs at least 24 touchdowns in the upcoming season. Given his past performance, this seems achievable. In 2024, Chase recorded 17 receiving touchdowns, marking his career high with the Bengals.
Chase benefits from Joe Burrow, his quarterback, who returns after spending part of last season injured. Burrow managed 17 touchdowns in just eight games. For Chase, achieving multiple-touchdown games will be crucial to setting the new record. If he stays healthy and plays the entire season, he enjoys an extra regular-season game compared to Moss when he set the record in 2007.
Following this month’s training camp and preseason games, Chase will begin his quest during the Bengals’ home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, Sept. 13.
