Actor Javier Bardem has found himself at the center of a dispute involving Pink, Macklemore, and the Israel-Gaza conflict. This comes after he promoted a petition calling for Pink to be removed as a UNICEF ambassador. The petition argues that her comments are “incompatible with the role of a UNICEF Ambassador.” It stresses that ambassadors should uphold “peace, understanding, and humanitarian values above personal biases.”
The petition, found on Change.org, insists that UNICEF should “take decisive action and remove Pink as an ambassador,” emphasizing UNICEF’s commitment to all children regardless of nationality or heritage.
This move by Bardem has drawn criticism from his fans and fellow celebrities. Michael Rapaport was particularly vocal, mocking Bardem as a “tattletale” for his approach. Rapaport criticized Bardem for using a petition rather than addressing Pink directly over his concerns.
Selma Blair also commented, questioning the removal of Pink from UNICEF for her “human, humble, and loving words.” Social media reactions have been mixed. Some users defended Bardem, while others viewed his actions as unnecessary cancel culture.
One online commenter questioned Bardem’s credibility to cancel Pink. Another supported Bardem, arguing that Pink favored the discomfort of herself and friends over human lives. Others criticized Pink for allegedly failing to address Palestinian issues, stating she is unfit for her UNICEF role.
Fox News Digital reached out to Bardem, UNICEF, and Pink for their comments.
The controversy began after Macklemore’s performance at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with Ed Sheeran on September 4. Macklemore’s performance included a song advocating for Palestinians. This led to criticism from the @Stop_Antisemitism account, accusing him of spreading “anti-Israel propaganda.” Pink’s response to this criticism added fuel to the fire.
Pink, in her defense, explained her stance. She emphasized her Jewish background and expressed her position on the conflict. She condemned Hamas as a terrorist organization and agreed that Palestinians deserve a future respecting their humanity.
Pink insisted that protecting innocent life must come first and said nobody should celebrate the death of any child. She mentioned her years of work with UNICEF on both sides of the conflict.
Pink addressed her reaction to Macklemore’s performance, mentioning past instances that influenced her perspective. She clarified she had no intention of silencing artists or seeking their dismissal but highlighted the fear sparked among Jews by Macklemore’s message.
Subsequent to his performance, Macklemore reiterated his “Free Palestine” stance. He claimed his tour was an opportunity to share that message. However, he faced repercussions as he was later removed from the tour lineup based on venue reservations.
