Yan made his Citi Field debut, delighting the Mets crowd. In the ninth inning, with an 0-2 count and two outs, Yan believed he had struck out Nasim Nuñez with his fastball on the outside corner. However, the home plate umpire disagreed, leading Yan to launch into his famous celebration prematurely. Realizing his mistake, Yan tapped his hat to challenge the call for an ABS review. Despite the review, the call stood as a ball.

After the humorous moment, Yan refocused. Two pitches later, he successfully struck out Nuñez on a slider, celebrating at the right moment this time.

The Mets were down by a run going into the bottom of the ninth. Brett Baty started with a walk, and Jorge Polanco’s single increased the excitement as the winning run reached base. Francisco Alvarez then doubled, tying the game and moving the potential winning run to third base. Francisco Lindor sealed the victory with a single, prompting a stadium-wide celebration.

Yan secured his first career MLB win with 1.2 scoreless innings. Despite being a 29-year-old rookie, he made waves with his celebration style, originating in the minors. The major leagues got a taste of his enthusiasm during his first five appearances.
