Ohio State’s wide receiver, Jeremiah Smith, consistently silences skeptics with his impressive performances this season. Last Saturday, Smith excelled once again, achieving 11 receptions for 206 yards and two touchdowns, propelling the Buckeyes to a 31-14 victory over Iowa. This marked his second consecutive game surpassing 200 receiving yards and the third time this season he reached at least two touchdowns.
David Pollack, a former Georgia defensive end and now a college football analyst, previously doubted Smith’s prowess. Following Smith’s recent exploits, Pollack publicly apologized for his earlier critique of the 6-foot-4 junior. “Jeremiah Smith, I apologize. I was wrong; you were right. Everyone else is smart; I’m stupid. He’s the best player in college football. It’s very clear,” he admitted.
Smith has become Ohio State’s all-time leader in receptions, receiving touchdowns, and receiving yards this season. Pollack explained his initial skepticism, saying, “The superhuman mutant moved all over the field. He’s done a little bit of everything.” Despite initial doubts, Pollack acknowledged Smith’s exceptional talent, urging continued praise for the receiver.
This season, Smith leads the nation with 44 receptions and 823 receiving yards. His tally of nine touchdowns ties him with Oregon State’s Jesse Legree. With current performances, Smith remains a strong contender for the Heisman Trophy, significantly contributing to Ohio State’s 4-1 record and keeping them in the national championship race.
Smith will seek to avenge past setbacks against the Hoosiers and further bolster his stats when Ohio State faces reigning national champion Indiana on Saturday, Oct. 17.
