Changes in NFL Schedule
Super Bowl champion Joe Theismann believes the NFL has shifted away from its traditional schedule. The league now includes more primetime games on holidays and international venues, moving beyond the usual Sunday afternoon slot. Theismann noted the vast changes in broadcasting, remarking on the increase in streaming services. Where once games were limited to networks like ABC, NBC, and CBS, fans now access games through platforms like YouTube, Amazon, and Peacock.
Theismann reminisced about Sundays being a special time for fans to watch football. However, the introduction of games on various nights now means fans can catch games almost every day of the week. This season, the opening game falls on a Wednesday, with a subsequent game in Melbourne, Australia on Thursday. The NFL’s schedule also includes a new Thanksgiving Eve game and multiple Friday games, including the fourth annual Black Friday game. Additionally, three games will take place on Christmas Day, with future Saturday games becoming available once the college football season ends in December.
Despite these changes, Theismann acknowledges the benefits of easier access to games. Fans now have the option to watch games live instead of reading about them later. He emphasizes adapting to changing times and viewing these developments as part of a natural progression.
The American Century Championship
Joe Theismann has participated in 36 American Century Championships. The event, held from July 10-12 at Edgewood Golf Course in Lake Tahoe, is a highlight for those passionate about golf and part of the celebrity world. It offers a unique chance for participants and fans to interact with personalities they admire, such as Jerry Rice, Tony Romo, and Miles Teller. Theismann, a fan of Teller, shared that “Top Gun: Maverick” is his favorite film.
The tournament has accrued over $8 million for charitable causes. American Century Investments, which donates 40% of its profits to the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, actively fundraises during the event to support the institute further. Theismann praised CEO Jonathan Thomas for the dedication to charitable efforts.
Fans can catch the tournament broadcast on NBC and Peacock.
