Actor John Goodman recently gained attention with his striking physical transformation. At 74, Goodman’s appearance was nearly unrecognizable in a photo shared by actor David DeLuise on Instagram. The two actors unexpectedly met at a grocery store, where DeLuise captured the moment alongside a much slimmer Goodman.
DeLuise, known for his role as Jerry Russo on Disney Channel’s “Wizards of Waverly Place,” expressed admiration in his Instagram caption, labeling Goodman as a “legend.” The noticeable change in Goodman’s appearance is a result of years of dedication to transforming his lifestyle.
Goodman’s journey began after he found himself nearing 400 pounds. In 2010, he took significant steps towards losing weight by eliminating sugar from his diet and committing to regular exercise, including six workouts a week. As he told ABC News in 2016, Goodman recognized a pattern of eating “alcoholically,” consuming food constantly, and decided to change these habits.
“I just stopped eating all the time,” Goodman shared. “In the old days, I would lose weight only to revert back to my previous behaviors with alcohol.”
Boxing and daily walks became Goodman’s chosen forms of exercise. He described his boxing experience to The Rolling Stone, saying, “It’s great. It’s usually just an hour, hour and a half of hitting the mitts, hitting the bags, learning footwork.” He admitted he never reached a level of skill he felt confident in for sparring.
A pivotal aspect of Goodman’s transformation was giving up alcohol. Since quitting in 2007, he has been open about the realization that prompted this change. Goodman sought to “live life better” and expressed that previous attempts to focus on his craft were counterproductive.
His personal trainer, Mackie Shilstone, highlighted Goodman’s dedication to consistent exercise and adherence to a Mediterranean-style diet as key components of his transformation.
Entertainment journalist Christina Dugan Ramirez noted her experience in the industry, having extensively covered high-profile events and interviews. She joined Fox News Digital in 2024, adding her expertise to their coverage.
